POETIC, SENSITIVE, HYPNOTIC AND INTENSE. These were the adjectives used by Australian media to describe Waldemar Kolbusz’s works. Born to immigrant Polish parents in Perth, Australia, acclaimed artist Waldemar Kolbusz’s abstract oil paintings are now available in Singapore at Indigo Arts Gallery in Marina Square.
Titled “Freeway”, his ongoing body of work was inspired by the long drives through the Nevada and Arizona deserts in America. Formerly an accountant, Waldemar, 31, spent nine months in 1997 travelling Japan, Europe and the United States. He calls this the journey that helped him re-evaluate his identity and life; he had started painting only in 1996. “The desert was a perfect place to develop a new code about my work to do with minimising toward the fundamental – both in one’s life and then mirroring this in one’s work/art,” he elaborates.
Collectors of Waldemar’s art include accounting giant KPMG, Duxton Hotel and interior magazine Vogue Living in Melbourne, Australia.
